For you, the best terroir of Moulis-en-Médoc
A plateau, a legend!
In the heart of Moulis-en-Médoc, on the famous Grand Poujeaux plateau, enhanced by its proximity to the Gironde estuary.
Our vines are rooted in one of the most prestigious terroirs in the Médoc, with:
- 90% serious Garonne – ‘Type 3 terraces’
- 10% clay-limestone and sandy
This combination of soils and the age of our vines, which are up to 70 years old, gives Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux wines unparalleled complexity and elegance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What grape varieties are used in this wine?
Our blend reflects the Bordeaux tradition, with Cabernet Sauvignon dominating to provide structure and powerful tannins, complemented by Merlot for roundness and suppleness. Petit Verdot adds colour and spicy notes, while Cabernet Franc brings finesse and floral elegance. This combination perfectly expresses our terroir in Moulis-en-Médoc.
Is this wine suitable for extended ageing?
Absolutely! Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux is an excellent wine for ageing. Thanks to its solid tannic structure and aromatic potential, it can be stored for 15 to 20 years in good conditions. It will reveal its full complexity after 5-7 years of ageing, developing tertiary aromas of leather, undergrowth and sweet spices.
How should this wine be served to bring out all its aromas?
For optimal tasting, serve the wine at 16-18°C. We strongly recommend decanting the wine 1 to 2 hours before serving, especially for younger vintages. This aeration will allow the tannins to soften and the aromas to fully develop. Use wide-stemmed glasses such as Bordeaux glasses to concentrate the aromas.
What are your environmental practices in the vineyard?
We have been practising sustainable viticulture for several years, with an approach that respects the ecosystem. We limit the use of chemicals, favour natural treatments, and work the soil mechanically to preserve biodiversity. Our goal is to pass on this exceptional terroir to future generations while maintaining the quality of our wines.
What dishes pair perfectly with this wine?
This Moulis-en-Médoc pairs beautifully with grilled red meats (rib of beef, leg of lamb), game (venison, wild boar), and slow-cooked dishes such as beef bourguignon. It also enhances a platter of mature cheeses (Comté, Roquefort) and can accompany fine mushrooms (porcini, truffles). Its structure also allows it to be paired with spicy dishes or barbecued meats.
What is the ageing potential of each vintage?
Potential varies from vintage to vintage: great years (2016, 2019, 2020) can be kept for 20-25 years, while more accessible vintages reveal themselves after 3-5 years. We recommend building up a cellar with several vintages to discover how the château has evolved over time.
How should this wine be stored under optimal conditions?
Store your bottles horizontally in a cool place (12-15°C), away from light and vibrations. Humidity should be between 70-80%. Avoid temperature fluctuations. A natural cellar or an air-conditioned wine cellar are ideal. Handle bottles with care, especially older vintages.
Do you offer tastings at the estate?
We organise guided tours by appointment with a guided tasting of our different vintages. This is an opportunity to discover our philosophy, our terroir and the history of the château. Contact us to plan your visit and enjoy an authentic experience in the heart of the Médoc region. Since this summer, we’ve been offering chocolate and wine pairings to delight your taste buds.
